Goodbye Gennie

Emmerdale actress Sian Reese-Williams has announced she is to leave the soap in the summer after five years of playing Genesis "Gennie" Sharma. Series Producer Kate Oates is now plotting a dramatic exit for the popular character leaving fans wondering what the future will hold for Gennie and her on screen husband Nikhil Sharma (Rik Makarem).

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star Sunday about her decision to leave, Sian said: "I have absolutely adored my five years playing Gennie and being part of such an iconic show. My decision to leave has nothing to do with Emmerdale - it's such a special place and I will always cherish it.

"But I feel it's the right time for me to say goodbye and find new challenges. It was an incredibly difficult decision to make and I will miss my friends, the show and of course Genesis. As an actor, my main passion has always been playing many different people, and I'm really looking forward to doing that again. I am excited about what the future holds."

Gennie first arrived in the village in April 2008, where she unexpectedly met her biological father Shadrach Dingle. During her time in the village she has been part of number of dramatic storylines including her fling with Bob Hope, her relationship with Nikhil Sharma and her live birth during Emmerdale's 40th anniversary episode. Gennie is currently involved in supporting her mother Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
