Bill Ward joins the cast of Emmerdale

Former Coronation Street star Bill Ward is to join the cast of Emmerdale it has been revealed.

Ward has been cast as James Barton, the older brother of John Barton who died last year following a car accident. He will begin filming his first scenes in September and will be seen on screen in October.

The newcomer is a farmer and a single dad to three grown up sons. His first scenes will see him unexpectedly arrive at Butler's Farm to the surprise of Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb). Viewers will quickly learn that a rift between James and his sibling was never healed before John's untimely death.

Speaking on his casting Ward commented: "I'm really looking forward to it. The Emmerdale team are a very talented bunch indeed and I'm extremely chuffed to have been asked to join them."

Series producer Kate Oates added: "I'm delighted to welcome Bill to the show. The Barton family have always been extremely popular with our audience and the arrival of James will be the start of a new era for them."
